This morning was a fantastic morning. It was one of those mornings I want to remember forever. I took Gabriel over to Five Rivers (nature center near us) so he could run around and we could breathe in some fresh air. Before we left the house, he decided he wanted to bring his super hero cape I made him with us (it is one of my upcycled t-shirt capes). It made me so happy to see him running around wearing it. The sunshine was so beautiful, dappling through the trees. There was a great cool breeze, the birds were out, the flowers were in bloom… it was a perfect day. G loved racing through the trails, smelling flowers, and trying to spot animals in the woods (which all, no doubt, hid at the sound of him coming!).
In the garden there, they had the plant “lamb’s ears”, which always make me think of my mom and the best things about my childhood (my mom had this insanely gorgeous herb garden when I was growing up and my favorite thing in it was Lamb’s Ears). I was so delighted to watch him squeal when he “pet” the plant! Plus he had a blast searching for fish in the pond and seeing the owl in the Nature Center Building. (G has become quite good at hooting like an owl.)
The best, best moment was when he looked up at me with a beautiful happy smile on his face, with the sunshine and shadows around him, and reached for my hand as we headed down a path. I wished my camera battery had not died within five minutes of getting there so I could have tried to capture that look. I’ll just have to hope I won’t forget it.
